Providing a holistic therapy that can help reduce every day stresses and strains, aid relaxation, improving circulation thereby revitalising energy levels.
Reflexology stimulates reflex points on the feet to help re-balance the body systems. Using a firm yet compassionate pressure, this treatment works on a very profound level and promotes a deep state of relaxation and feeling of well-being.
Reflexology is not a medical treatment and is not used to diagnose illness; however it does work alongside traditional medicine and treats the whole person. It can also be used to help alleviate symptoms associated with a huge number of health issues from chronic pain, IBS, asthma, terminal illness, migraine, anxiety and stress.
If you have private health insurance you may be entitled to Reflexology under your treatment plan. This depends on the plan you are on, I would advise that you check with your private health care provider.
How does Reflexology work?
Reflexology has been practiced for the last 5000 years and has roots in India, China and Japan. It is a non-intrusive holistic therapy based on the theory that reflex points on the feet correspond with different areas of the body and organs. When pressure is applied to these reflexes it stimulates the movement of energy along nerve channels thereby improving circulation, cleansing the body of toxins and bringing balance to the body. It often induces deep relaxation which promotes healing on both a physical and emotional level.
You will be asked to remove your shoes and socks and to recline on a couch with your feet slightly raised on a pillow. A full medical history will be taken on your first appointment and you will be asked to sign a consent form. At each subsequent appointment a less detailed consultation will take place before the treatment starts. The feet are then cleansed and each foot will be worked on individually with the other kept warm in a wrapped towel. A form of massage and a compression technique is used to work on the reflex points using my thumbs, fingers and knuckles. Some areas may feel tender but overall the experience should be extremely relaxing.
